Ovarian Cysts? Not a Pleasant Experience

This blog is about natural remedies known to prevent and dissolve ovarian cysts. Many of these remedies are ancient treatments used by cultures all over the world. They have stood the test of time.

What causes ovarian cysts?

Both Western medicine and Alternative medicine practitioners usually agree that the cysts are caused by over production of Estrogen (Estrogen Dominance)  or an imbalance between Estrogen and Progesterone. So what causes that imbalance? A few things. One is stress. Over production of cortisol wrecks havoc on your hormones.

GET YOUR THYROID LEVELS TESTED! You want your TSH below 1.0. If your thyroid is out of range then all other hormones will not be in balance. Here is a reliable TSH test you can do at home from Amazon.  It is called IMAWARE about $60.00.  https://smile.amazon.com/imawareTM-Thyroid-Health-Screening-Test/
If you find your TSH is not 1.0 or below then contact me. I can help.
Oh you say, that sounds expensive! Not compared to most deductibles and copays and think about it. Just remember, a mani/pedi can cost $60.00, and a fancy coffee can be $5 dollars a day, however these things aren't meant to be beneficial towards your health. Make your health a priority as it will be worth the cost in the long run!

Some other causes of cysts are as follows:
Household and personal care products that contain chemicals that are "hormone interrupters." You just need to clean out that makeup drawer, deodorant, sunscreen, body lotion, perfume, laundry and bath products and exchange them for organic ones. The EWG website has great suggestions for non-toxic home and personal care products. I also have recipes for most of these in my book, "Autoimmune Saved Me" Amazon or your local bookstore.
Practice stress reduction techniques EVERYDAY. For example, meditation, tapping, yoga and light exercise. I know some women who de-stress from more vigorous exercise but even if that is you a 10 minute meditation before bed will work wonders. Tapping can be done anywhere anytime. It is a quick fix for a sudden stressful situation. It is my "GO TO." You can find the easily learned technique on websites and You Tube.
Below are important ways to balance those hormones and dissolve cysts naturally.

Diet:
Check out the BaLi eating plan-just google it. You will find a list of foods to help. It is an amazing anti-inflammatory eating list. Also find it on drfitt.com
Cut out refined sugar, processed grains and slow your roll on the gluten, decrease dairy. All of these increase the production of estrogen. Increase fiber intake. That helps detox from excess estrogen.. . Sprouted and ancient grains are best in moderation. Use stevia, coconut sugar and xylitol in place of sugar. Check out my "Sugar Mix" recipe under the blog "Just Say No to Crack".
Increase your healthy fats. 1/2 of an avocado and 2-3 Tbls of extra virgin olive oil per day will do the trick. **** Drink 1-2 servings of organic bone broth per day. It come is powder form. Also use it to cook vegetables. Bone broth is important as well as eating meat in moderation. Animal fats help balance insulin levels and your hormone levels. If you are vegetarian then by all means increase your consumption of coconut, avocado and olive oils.
You absolutely must increase your filtered water intake. Now, here is the deal. Water filters that are worth anything filter out toxic chemicals BUT some of them also filter out essential minerals. Do your homework here on water filters. I recommend that you add liquid trace mineral drops. I use Vitacost brand. It is an inexpensive and high quality option. Add to your filtered water. More about minerals later.

Topicals:
There are great topical creams to balance your hormones. Ask at your local health food store or order on line. My favorite places to order these creams are drfitt, com (Her Balance) and West Texas RX westtexasrx.com. These folks are a wealth of knowledge and carry high quality creams.
To help with the abdominal pain and also shrink an ovarian cyst try this technique.
Soak a gauze in 100% black cumin seed oil, place over the cyst, then place a non-toxic plastic bag over the gauze. Then place a heating pad on low heat and keep in place for 1-3 hours before bed. You can reuse the gauze and bag many times. This does 3 things. It helps with the pain, decreases inflammation and draws out the fluid from the cyst. The old school oil here is castor oil. It works but not as well as the Black cumin seed oil.
There are essential oils and essential oil synergy blends you can rub over the area 3-4 times a day. These will also help with pain and shrink the cyst. Here are some examples and where I buy them.
I like Edens Garden. They are high quality organic, and affordable. You can find these blends on their website:
Synergy blends: "Gal Pal" and PMS Ease. Both contain oils from herbs that are known to help dissolve cysts. Here is a recipe you can make yourself:
Add the following organic 100% pure essential oils to a dark glass vial and apply topically to your lymph nodes in your neck and over the cyst 3-4 times a day.
10 drops of each of the following:
Clary Sage
Frankincense
Lavendar
Cypress
Geranium
Then add 30-50 drops of a carrier oil of your choice. I like almond and avocado oils as both are anti-inflammatory. Swirl to blend and gently shake before use.

Supplements:
In my opinion the following are the most helpful.
1.  Mineral balance: This is so important. Many women with Cysts are low on magnesium. You can take a supplement or even better purchase a magnesium oil and rub in your scalp and leave on for 60 seconds before you shower. Actually you can rub it in any soft tissue and leave on for 30 seconds. It tends to be a bit sticky but if you don't mind then leave it on your skin. Again, mineral drops to your filtered water. westtxrx, com makes their own!!
2. Iodine solution "Lugol's Solution" 5 drops in the AM in about 3 oz of cold water. Iodine is most important for Thyroid function as well as reducing and preventing ovarian cysts. It is also anit- bacterial and anti-fungal.  You can purchase Lugol's solution on line or from West Texas RX. Tell them I sent you!
 3.  Organic apple cider vinegar (with the mother in it-Bragg's brand) 1 tsp in 4-6 oz. of warm water. Add a tsp of raw organic honey or liquid stevia for a more pleasant taste. Do this  twice a day. This shrinks the cysts and balances your insulin.
4.  Vitamin D3 5000mg capsule per day.
5.  Maca root caps 3000mg/day. Increases progesterone.
6.  Evening primrose or Borage caps both contain GLA which can help increase progesterone. Follow bottle directions.
7.   Vitex herbal caps also known as Chasteberry  has shown to regulate  the pituitary and hypothalmus glands which when out of balance can also be a source of estrogen dominance. It also helps produce a mature egg for ovulation and decrease the size of cysts.
Vitex can be taken after your period up until the period shows up again . You can take this herb for months up to years. Dosing is normally 400mg two times a day It is an herb that takes months to work but is effective. ****STOP taking Vitex if you have a positive home pregnancy test.

There are other herbs you can try but these are my top choices. Purchase these herbs at a health food store you trust or a trusted source on line is rosemaryherbshop.com. You can call in an order as well. Tell them I sent you!!
You must remember that consistency is the key. You CANNOT supplement your way out of a bad diet or toxic chemicals. If you won't eat it then don't put it on your body!!

Our western medicine mindset is "just take a pill and continue a toxic lifestyle." I can promise you that if you don't stop putting hormone interrupters on your skin and in your mouth then no pill is going to be very effect. None of this will work long term if you continue to allow emotional stress to take over your life. Learn the stress techniques I mentioned above and take back control of you!
You are smart, you can do this!!!

****As always, if you are taking any pharmaceuticals contact your health care provider before taking any herbal supplements.****
