My Sanctuary is my Healing Place

I have always been interested in Yoga. It just looked so calming. When I was in my twenties with two babies I decided to buy a Yoga video, yes a video. I needed to destress. I don’t remember the name of the video but it was for beginners. I really enjoyed the time I spent doing it. However, it didn’t teach me anything about the practice. All I knew was it was calming. I needed to destress. As time went on I got away from the little amount of Yoga practice that I knew. There were no classes anywhere close to me and I was busy with my kids.

I never forgot about how calming it was and I thought of it often. In 2010 when I began my healing journey and Yoga became a huge part of the plan. I researched the type of exercise that was beneficial for my blood type. It was Yoga!! No wonder I always liked it!!

I found a wonderful class with very knowledgeable teachers. I learned the Yoga practice of Kundalini. It is the original practice. After learning all of the “whys” you do the practice in a certain way it all made sense. I went to class 3 nights a week for a very long time.

There was a time when I was out of town when I accidentally got into a “hot Yoga class”. Oh wow, that was grueling. Not my thing. Then another time or two or three I got into a so-called yoga class that used a few poses but mostly the teacher was harsh and there were no meditative parts to the class. I tell you all of this because not all Yoga is the same. When it was brought to the US in the 1960’s it was the pure form. It has since been morphed into something that isn’t Yoga. It has been “westernized.”

Even if you are a person who loves vigorous exercise yoga will still benefit you. Doing Yoga alone at home is good but a class is better. You reap the benefits of everyone else’s energy.

I talk about Yoga many times in my book, “Autoimmune Saved Me.” Here are some takeaways:

Look for a Kundalini class. Ask at your health food store or look on social media or do a search.

It needs to include the teachings of the “whys”

It also needs to have an emphasis on teaching you to meditate. I also address this in my book.

It needs to be a loving and friendly atmosphere.

If you live in my area let me know and I can point you in the right direction.
