Blackened Fish Tacos

Every two months I get a fresh frozen shipment of Wild caught Alaskan seafood. I decided to start this subscription after reading so much about the "nastiness" of farmed fish, and the way it is processed and WHERE it is processed..... Just google farmed fish vs wild caught.😕😩

A new fish I received last month was Rockfish. It is a whitefish that takes all kinds of seasoning really well. Broil, bake, grill or saute' it! Rockfish is low in calories, high in protein (about 30 gms per serving) and Omega 3s. Win!!

I love Fish Tacos and this recipe is wonderful.

Blackened Fish Tacos

The rub:

Any commercial blackened seasoning will work or you can make your own:

  • 1/2 tablespoon paprika
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper (Courtesy of WIld Alaskan Company with my modifications)

This is for about 1 lb. of rockfish or 4 large fillets.
Place the rub on both sides of the fish. Coat the bottom of a pan with avacado oil or coconut oil. Place the fish in the pan.
Bake 400* about 7-8 minutes. Remove from the oven and flake up the fish.
Leave the fish in the pan and cook on top of the stove for a couple minutes. Cooking it flaked on top of the stove leaves the fish with crunchy edges. YUMMM

2 sauce options:

          Avacado Sauce:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • ½ C non-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 C sour cream
  • 1/4-1/2 C water
  • 2 cups cilantro with some of the stems
  • ½ of a large lime (juice)
  • 1 large garlic clove
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • a few drops of Tabasco sauce.
  • Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.

  • Chipotle Sauce:
  • Make your favorite Ranch dressing and add Chipotle pepper seasoning to taste.

Place the fish in soft corn or flour tortillas. If you are watching your carbs you can use cauliflower toritillas. Add shredded cabbage, cilantro, green onions, tomatoes, cheese, cucumbers, radishes, jalapenos or roasted corn to the taco. Top with a drizzle of either sauce!! Don't forget a squeeze of lime!!
